You've spent weeks planning a trip. The hotel is booked, the restaurants are picked, and you've mapped out a easy stroll through the old town. Then you arrive and find stairs at the entrance. The museum lift is out of order. And the "charming route" your app suggested turns out to be a steep cobbled hill.
For a lot of us, that's just a rough afternoon. For someone who uses a wheelchair, has low vision, or lives with a chronic condition, it can end the whole trip.
That's why we built TravelersLy the way we did.
It's not the journey, it's the not knowing
Most travelers with accessibility needs are used to problem-solving. What really wears people down is the uncertainty. Is there step-free access? Do the station lifts actually work? Is there a quiet spot when the crowds get too much? Can I follow directions without staring at a screen?
A hotel listed as "accessible" might have a fully adapted room, or it might have a single ramp round the back. It's the same word with a very different reality. People deserve to know before they book.
More of us are affected than we think
The World Health Organization estimates that around 1.3 billion people, about one in six, live with a significant disability. Then add older travelers, parents with strollers, and anyone recovering from an injury. Accessibility isn't a small corner of travel. It's a big part of it.
Design for some, and it helps everyone
You may have heard of the curb-cut effect. Sidewalk ramps were made for wheelchair users, but they also help people with suitcases, bikes, and prams. Accessible features in a travel app work the same way. A clear layout helps after a long flight. Captions help in a noisy airport. When you design with care for the edges, everyone's trip gets easier.
What you can use today
TravelersLy now has accessibility options built in, including voice navigation, captions, and phrase boards in every language. They sit right alongside our itinerary and booking tools, so you can plan, book, and get around in one place.
We're not done, though. We'll keep learning from the people who use TravelersLy and improving as we go.
And if you have a story about what travel has been like for you, we'd really love to hear it.
Because the world is worth seeing, and everyone deserves the chance to see it.
